A TROOP of Hyndburn Scouts are half way to raising money needed to patch up their leaky roof and plans are now being drawn up to improve the facilities.
A campaign to raise £5,000 to put a new roof over the heads of the Second Rishton Baptist Scout Group and to provide toilet facilities at the Scout Hall, in Commercial Street was launched in February.
This was kick-started by a generous mystery donor who chipped in £250 and Paul Fleming, a member of the Parents Support Group, today revealed that just over £2,500 has now been raised.
Mr Fleming said: "It is looking good and we are particularly encouraged by the support we have had from the local community and local businesses.
"We are now half way there and plans are being drawn up for the improvements to be carried out. It is possible that at a later date other work will be carried out to improve the grounds too but the first priority is the roof and toilets."
The Scout group was first registered in 1948 and the Scout Hall has been used by the group since 1970, during which time the roof has started to show signs of wear and tear. The absence of a toilet at the hall has also been causing an inconvenience for far too long.
Members of the support group are now hoping that people will dig deep in more ways than one on Saturday when they hold a fundraising treasure hunt.
This will begin from the Commercial Street venue at 3pm and return to the Scout hut later in the afternoon for a barbecue. Tickets are £2.50 per person or £6 for a family ticket. A race night is also planned to be held at the Rishton Conservative Club on August 30.
